Through the years, many folks have said to me, "I wish I had a talent", I wish I had a gift. Well, I think
we all have talent in one form or another. The question is, are we willing to work hard enough to develop it. In the beginning
of our talent search, we all have the tendency to believe that our gift or talent is not, or could never be as special as
the "concert pianist" or the "dynamic motivational speaker" or any talented person we respect. Not true.
Talent begins with a small seed of burning desire and a commitment to develop that desire to the highest degree. In other
words work on it until you are happy with the final product. That could be a learning process that requires a life time of
dedication. Many times we learn a craft through our jobs over a period of years and we become very good (talented-gifted)
at our jobs. So this tells us that we are indeed capable of learning to be the best we can be at a trade. This is also very
true with most anything we attempt that has a positive nature. But we must ask ourselves; Will this new undertaking bring
joy to me and to others, and above all, does that talent please God. I would think the answer should be yes. I have found
the following to be true in my own life: (1) God is first in ALL things. (2) Never ignore those positive desires of your heart.
I believe God not only gives us the positive desires of our heart, I believe He may have placed those positive desires within
us. If this is true, then it means God will provide the proper tools and guidance to perfect your talent.

If I've read my scriptures correctly, I believe the disciples were from very humble beginnings and I believe they, like
us, had a lot to learn about service to The Lord and to others. However the disciples and other men and women of scripture
(perhaps unknowingly) began with the true keys to success. (1) They were willing to follow God no matter the cost. (2) They
loved and were willing to serve Jesus just as they were. (3) They ( had a burning desire) were ready to learn the new ways
of Christ. My goodness, we still talk about those positive, influential folks today. Be completely true to yourself and to
God with that desire (Talent-gift). Through prayer, present yourself to the Lord with what you have now. Present yourself
to Him through prayer with what you know about the talent you desire. Ask Him to teach you how you can best serve Him and
others with the desired ability. Focus on what you do best now and combine those abilities with the new gift. Focus on the
Word of God through scripture. With this humble beginning, we learn about the gift, we develop the gift and we begin to understand
that it is He who gives us the ability to improve daily as we use the talent. I believe this pleases God and with this action
we receive joy and accomplishment in life. If you truly desire to serve Christ with a talent, get ready for action, He will
use you and your God gifted talent. What a joy. Your
friend, David Lee Murray

1 Peter 4:11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one
who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things
God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
